I wrote this song shortly after reading environmentalist Rachel Carson's "The Silent World." Ms. Carson was decades ahead of her time in her call for conservation of our oceans.

On the rocky shore, Where land meets sea,
Crab takes a peek outside
‘Cowabunga, Dude, and Dude-ettes, too,
Watch out! Here comes the tide!’
Waves crash hard, and rock the yard,
Opalescent Moon Jelly ride
Anemones sway, as the Clownfish play,
They’re Romping in the Pulsing Tide,
(Yeah, they’re) Romping in the Pulsing Tide
Octopus plays the electric bass,
Guitar, drums and saxophone,
He’s a one-man band, He’s the best in the land
Rockin’ the Intertidal Zone!
Periwinkles race, At a snail’s pace,
Doin’ that ‘Seaweed Slide’
Tapping their feet, To the Surfin’ Beat,
Rockin’ to the Rhythm of the Tide
(Yeah, they’re) Rockin’ to the Rhythm of the Tide
Sea Stars sing, Brown Kelp swing,
Undulating passing wave
Anemones sway, As the Clownfish play,
And the Crab sidles back in his cave.
Cities of mussels, Hold on tight,
Shrimp flicker by with pomp
Snails are still a-tapping their feet,
Rockin’ to the ‘Tide Pool Stomp!’
(Yeah, they’re) Rockin’ to the ‘Tide Pool Stomp!’
